Launched in 2007, the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour brings the excitement of the big game experience to a casino near you. Sponsored by Blue Square Poker and taking place in ten Grosvenor or G casinos throughout the UK, the tour is a series of £1,000 No Limit Texas Holdem tournaments, capped off with a £3,000 grand final at the end of the year. Prize money for the eleven main events in the tours first year topped £3.5m.
Channel 4 coverage of every leg of the tours inaugural year has helped create a whole new host of British poker superstars, taking live poker in the UK to an unprecedented new level. Professional players, keen amateurs and Internet qualifiers were amongst those who sat down each month to battle it out for a place in history and life changing amounts of money. In 2008 the GUKPT became even more competitive with new events being added to the schedule and every side event also carrying full tour status and ranking points towards the GUKPT Leaderboard. Now starting its third year, there is even more on offer. The tour has increased the GUKPT ranking prize fund to £50,000 to be shared between the tour players with the highest ranking points. The Champion of Champions tournament (which offers seats to all GUKPT main event and side event winners) has grown to £100,000 and tour sponsor Blue Square Poker is offering £150,000 of added value to the tour!
With up to 400 players, each of the slow structured £1,000 main events takes place over four days, after a week of warm up tournaments. While most players simply pull up a grand to play, many qualify for much less cash via a variety of regular online and offline satellite tournaments.
The GUKPT has also introduced some new opportunities to the expanding portfolio for you to enjoy. The GUKPT Summer Series is a new addition to the schedule, which is three mini festivals in June where the buy-in is just £500 for the main events. In addition, there are now two GUKPT online festivals scheduled for 2009 at Grosvenor Poker. The successful GUKPT online summer festival that takes place in July and a new GUKPT online short-handed festival in January, offering diversity and action on 6 seat tables instead of the usual 10!
Grosvenor Poker players are able to qualify for many of the prestigious Grosvenor Festivals through our online Satellite Qualifiers.
