The Friday of the Grand National Festival is Ladies’ Day. Not only will there be quality racing, there’ll also be stunning outfits and action in the stands to enjoy. There are seven races taking place on Ladies’ Day, including four Grade 1 races. The top race of the day in terms of prize money is the Melling Chase.
The final day of the festival, Grand National Day, is of course all about the big one which will be run at 5:15pm on Saturday 15 April. It features 40 horses with a top prize of £1 million and is the penultimate race of the weekend.

BET ON THE 2023 GRAND NATIONAL
In 2022, Noble Yeats won the Grand National and was ridden by Sam Waley-Cohen in his last ever race before his retirement. The horse was a huge 50/1 outsider in what was one of the most eye-catching national wins in the last few years.
This year, Noble Yeats is one of the favourites, alongside Corach Rambler. Other notable frontrunners include Delta Work, Gaillard Du Mesnil and Mr Incredible.
At Grosvenor Casinos, you’ll find a fantastic range of horse racing betting markets and odds for the Grand National. These include win only, each way bets, a bet to place and Grand National Accas.
The Grand National is an outlier in the horse racing calendar. If there is one race that people bet on every year, it’s this one. And it all comes down to the simplest of bets, which horse they think will win.
So, what do you need to know before you bet?
A bet on a single horse to win will only come in if your horse finishes first past the post. With 40 horses in such an unpredictable race, a straight bet to win isn’t always successful. Just look at the 50/1 winner from 2022.
If you back a horse each way, you’ll be betting on it either to win or place in the top positions. This gives you more chance of winning, but with an each way bet you will be making two bets. That’s one to win and one to place. Your stake is therefore doubled.
If your horse finishes in the top positions, you’ll win on your bet to place. If it finishes first, both bets will come in.
WHAT ARE ANTE-POST BETS?
In horse racing, ante-post bets are placed before runners are confirmed for the final race. If you place an ante-post bet on the Grand National you will lose your stake if your horse doesn’t run in the race. However, this is offset by the fact that the rewards are often greater.
Ante-post bets are mostly popular for prestigious meetings, including the Grand National and the Cheltenham Festival.
Why should you choose an ante-post bet?
- You may secure bigger odds compared to when the event draws near
- They help maintain interest as the season develops
- No rule 4 deductions if runner withdraws from the race
Why should you not choose an ante-post bet?
- If your horse isn’t confirmed for the race, you lose your bet
- You might find better each-way terms on the day of the race
At Grosvenor Sport, our Grand National betting markets include ante-post betting. Plus you’ll also be able to make ante-post bets for the Cheltenham Festival, Royal Ascot, Glorious Goodwood, and all of the flat season classics and beyond.
Whether you’re backing a sure-fire favourite, you’ve got a top tip, or just fancy a lucky longshot, we’ve got you covered at Grosvenor Sport.
