ROWING BETTING ODDS

Rowing is one of the oldest sports in the UK, and whilst it might not be as popular as the likes of football and rugby, it offers plenty of opportunities for betting. Whether you love to get involved with rowing at the Olympics or you closely follow Henley Regatta or The Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge, you can bet on rowing right here with us at Grosvenor Sport.

You’ll find all your essential rowing betting markets and odds to place the bets you want to make on the competitions you love to watch.

HOW TO BET ON ROWING

Rowing betting is a little like horse racing betting – it’s all about backing a winner in a certain race. So for that reason, your main rowing betting markets focus on race winner or to place.

A bet on the race winner is a simple bet on which team you think will win the race overall. A bet to place is a bet on a certain team finishing in one of the top positions. You can also back a team each way, which means you place two bets. One to win and one to place. If your team wins, you win both your bets. If they place, you only win one.

In races like The Boat Race where it’s only two teams competing, you can only bet to win and not to place as it’s all about the winner.

ROWING LIVE BETTING

Rowing is all about feats of superhuman strength, with competitors giving it their all to haul their team over the finish line first. A lot can happen in a race. One team can take an early lead. The other can claw it back. The lead can change multiple times. And who knows what can happen when the weather turns?

This makes live rowing betting particularly exciting. With live In-Play betting, you bet as the race happens. Once the teams start rowing, bets are open and you can back your chosen team to win at any time during the race. Live rowing odds change during the race to account for the ebb and flow of the contest. When you place your bet is up to you.

HOW DO BETTING ODDS WORK IN ROWING?

Rowing odds work in just the same way as they do in all other sports. At Grosvenor Sport, you’ll see all our odds written as fractional odds. An example of this is Oxford to beat Cambridge in The Boat Race at 5/1.

If you bet £10 on Oxford and they won, you would win 5x your stake. So, you’d walk away with £50 plus your original stake for a total of £60.

BETTING ON THE HENLEY ROYAL REGATTA

The Henley Royal Regatta is probably the world’s best known regatta and is one of the top sporting events in the UK. It’s usually held in July across five days on the River Thames at Henley-on-Thames and has been going since 1839.

It’s super simple to bet on the Henley Royal Regatta as all of the races are head-to-head knockout competitions, with crews of rowers competing over the Thames course of 1 mile and 550 yards upstream.

Races include:

Grand Challenge Cup

It’s the oldest and most famous race dating back to 1839, and the biggest one for rowing betting. The Grand Challenge Cup is a men’s eights race, open to male crews from all eligible rowing clubs.

Stewards’ Challenge Cup

Beginning in 1841, this is the second oldest race at Henley. Starting out as a coxed four event, it became a coxless event in 1869. It’s open to all male crews from eligible rowing clubs and is one of the most popular events at the regatta.

Queen Mother Challenge Cup

A popular race at the regatta and for betting punters across the world, this is a men’s quadruple sculls event and is open to all crews from eligible clubs.

Ladies’ Challenge Plate

Slightly confusingly and despite the name, this event is actually a men’s eight-oared boat race. It is open to all crews below the standard of the Grand Challenge Cup, and has been a hotly contested event since 1845.

Princess Royal Challenge Cup

One of the highlights of the five days of racing, this race is open to crews of female scullers to enter. The race in its current form has been at the regatta since 1997, but it dates back to 1982 in other forms.

Remenham Challenge Cup

This women’s eights racing event is open to all female crews from eligible rowing clubs. It was first held at Henley Royal Regatta in 1998 and was originally called the Henley Prize. It was then renamed the Remenham Challenge Cup in honour of the President of the Remenham Cup Ian Rogers MBE, who donated the trophy.
